Eye exams are a very important tool used to maintain healthy eyes. Everyone; regardless of health, should see an optometrist or eye doctor to get routine eye exams. There are different eye exams that an optometrist can use to help you to maintain good vision and optical health. A comprehensive Rogers Park eye exam incorporates all of the important tests within one exam. Comprehensive eye exams usually include, but are not limited to the following tests: visual acuity test, preliminary tests, Keratometry, refraction, eye focusing, eye teaming & eye movement testing and an eye health evaluation. A visual acuity test is a test that determines how well each eye is seeing. It involves reading a letter chart as part of this test. Preliminary Tests are used to test certain aspects of vision function. They include testing depth perception, color vision, eye muscle movements, peripheral (side vision), and the way your pupils respond to light. Keratometry measures the curvature of the cornea (the clear outer surface of the eye) by focusing light on the cornea and measuring its reflection. Refraction is done to determine the appropriate lens power needed to correct any refractive error (ex: nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism) Eye Focusing, Eye Teaming, and Eye Movement Testing evaluates how well each eye focuses and how well the eyes work together. An eye health evaluation includes testing the cornea, the eye lids, and the conjunctiva and surrounding eye tissue. It also includes evaluating the lens, retina, and posterior portion of the eyes. The test also includes a measurement of the pressure in the eyes.
